Overview
The Ignore Rules feature lets you define reusable exclusion rules that hide resources from your cost recommendations view. Instead of dismissing individual resources one by one, you can create rules that automatically match current and future resources based on tags, specific resource IDs, or entire recommendation categories. Ignored resources remain in your inventory but are excluded from potential savings calculations, giving you a cleaner view of actionable optimization opportunities.
You can create ignore rules from the Cost Recommendations page, from a specific recommendation page, or from the Ignore Rules page using the + or Add rule + button. The creation form guides you through selecting your match criteria, scope, accounts, description, and duration — with a live preview showing how many resources and savings will be affected before you confirm.
Rule Types
Ignore Rules come in three types, each targeting resources differently:
Tags: Match resources based on their AWS tags. For example, ignore all resources tagged
env: prodorTeam: research. Tag rules can optionally be scoped to specific accounts.Resources: Target specific resource IDs directly. Use this when you know exactly which resources to exclude from recommendations. Only available from a specific recommendation page.
Recommendations: Blanket-ignore entire recommendation categories across all resources. Use this when a particular type of recommendation is not relevant to your organization.
Each rule also specifies a Scope — the recommendation types it applies to. A tag rule scoped to "Purchase Database Savings Plans" will only hide matching resources from that specific recommendation, while a rule scoped to "All recommendations" hides them everywhere.
How Ignored Resources Behave
When an ignore rule matches a resource:
The resource's status changes from Affected to Ignored in the recommendations view.
The resource is excluded from potential savings calculations — your total potential savings reflects only actionable, non-ignored recommendations.
The resource remains visible in the recommendations table when you filter by the "Ignored" tab, so you never lose track of what has been excluded.
The resource continues to appear normally in the Resource Explorer — ignore rules only affect the recommendations view.
The Ignore rule column on ignored resources shows which rule covers them, with a direct link to the rule.
When a rule is deleted, disabled, or expires, the affected resources are automatically revealed and return to Affected status — unless another active rule still covers them.
Creating, editing, and deleting rules requires the Manager role or above.
Temporary Rules
Ignore rules support an optional expiration date for temporary exclusions. This is useful when you want to suppress recommendations for a known period — during a migration, a seasonal workload, or while waiting for a contract renewal.
Set the expiration using the "Until" option and a date picker during rule creation or editing.
The rule remains active through the expiry day and stops applying the day after.
Once expired, the rule's status changes to Expired and matched resources return to Affected status.
Expired rules remain in your rules list for reference and can be deleted when no longer needed.
