Resource Explorer

Explore all your AWS resources and quickly identify those generating unnecessary costs with advanced filters, smart sorting, and optimization recommendations.

The Resource Explorer feature provides a clear and detailed view of your AWS resources and their associated cost, as well as any potential savings opportunities.

Overview

The Resource Explorer provides an itemized list of all the AWS resources detected in your accounts. For each resource, this view shows the resource's actual current cost, as well as its forecasted annual cost. You can use this page to search or filter for specific resources to understand their individual impact on your overall spending and to investigate your cost allocation at a granular level.

Page Header Summary

A summary banner at the top of the page reflects the costs of the resources currently displayed. As soon as you apply a filter, the summary updates instantly to reflect only the matching resources, so you can immediately size up the financial weight of the slice you are investigating without having to add up rows manually. The summary includes:

  • Annualized Cost: The forecasted 12-month cost of the displayed resources, based on past and current usage.

  • Last 7 Days: The actual cost of the displayed resources over the last 7 days.

  • Last 31 Days: The actual cost of the displayed resources over the last 31 days.

  • Potential Savings: The total estimated savings available across the displayed resources, based on Stable's recommendations.

Filters Panel

A dedicated filters panel on the left side of the page lets you narrow down the resource list with just a few clicks. Available filters include:

  • Service: Limit results to one or more AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, etc.).

  • Account: Filter resources to a single account or to a specific subset of accounts to focus on the scope you care about.

  • Region: Filter by AWS region. This filter is sticky — it persists as you navigate between different screens.

  • Recommendation Type: Show only resources that are affected by a specific cost optimization recommendation, so you can drill into a particular type of opportunity.

  • Tags: Filter resources by their AWS tags to align the view with how your organization groups workloads (by environment, team, project, etc.).

Filters combine with the search bar and the page header summary to give you a fast, focused view of any subset of your AWS estate.

No display limits: The Resource Explorer lists every resource that matches your filters, with no cap on the number of rows displayed. The total number of matching resources is shown above the table, and whether you are exploring a handful of workloads or auditing tens of thousands of resources across many accounts, the full result set is always available.

  1. Customize Columns: Add, remove, or rearrange columns in the table to focus on the metrics most relevant to your needs. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the table to access column settings.

  2. Search and Sort: Use the search bar to filter by resource ID, name, or any visible column value, and click on column headers to sort by any metric.

  3. Data Export: Export the complete table or filtered resources to CSV format for offline analysis or reporting. Use the download icon in the upper right corner of the table to export data.

Detailed Resource View

Clicking on a resource in the resource explorer's main table will open up the detailed resource view. This view gives all of the previously available information in the main table as well as the resource's specific and detailed usage metrics, and their associated, calculated costs. The recommendations tab in the table will also show any and all recommendations that could be applied to the resource to reduce its cost. The recommendations tab also links directly back to the corresponding entry in the Cost Recommendations page, allowing you to navigate between a resource and its recommendations without losing context.
