Resource Explorer

Explore all your AWS resources and quickly identify those generating unnecessary costs with advanced filters, smart sorting, and optimization recommendations.

Updated over a week ago

The Resource Explorer feature provides a clear and detailed view of your AWS resources and their associated cost, as well as any potential savings opportunities.

Overview

The Resource Explorer provides an itemized list of all the AWS resources detected in your accounts. For each resource, this view shows the resource’s actual current cost, as well as its forecasted annual cost. You can use this page to search or filter for specific resources to understand their individual impact on your overall spending and to investigate your cost allocation at a granular level.

Resources created by Compute Savings Plans at $0, as well as resources costing less than $10, are hidden by default to keep the view focused on meaningful cost items.

Filtering and Sorting

The Resource Explorer offers advanced filtering capabilities to help you find exactly what you need:

  • First Seen On: Filter resources by the date they were first detected. Supports custom date ranges, allowing you to isolate resources created within any specific period. This is particularly useful for identifying new resources or investigating cost spikes.

  • Region Filter: Filter by AWS region. This filter is sticky — it persists as you navigate between different screens.

  • Search: Use the search bar to filter by resource ID, name, or any visible column value.

  • Column Sorting: Click on column headers to sort resources by any metric.

Resource Table

The main table displays individual resources with detailed information. You can personalize how resource data is displayed to match your workflow preferences:

  1. Customize Columns: Add, remove, or rearrange columns in the table to focus on the metrics most relevant to your needs. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the table to access column settings.

  2. Sort and Filter: Click on column headers to sort resources or use the search bar to filter specific information.

  3. Data Export: Export the complete table or filtered resources to CSV format for offline analysis or reporting. Use the download icon in the upper right corner of the table to export data.

Detailed Resource View

Clicking on a resource in the resource explorer's main table will open up the detailed resource view. This view gives all of the previously available information in the main table as well as the resource's specific and detailed usage metrics, and their associated, calculated costs. The recommendations tab in the table will also show any and all recommendations that could be applied to the resource to reduce its cost.
