OpenSearch: Purchase Reserved Instances

Updated this week

Difficulty: Commitment

Description

We have identified OpenSearch nodes in your account that are not covered by a Reserved Instance. Reserving data or dedicated master nodes that represent a steady-state workload can lead to significant cost savings on your OpenSearch usage.

Selection Criteria

  • The OpenSearch node (data or master) has not been covered by a Reserved Instance in the last 7 days.

  • The OpenSearch node has maintained a steady-state workload for more than 7 days.

Expected Saving

Up to 36% savings with a 1-year No Upfront Reserved Instance, and up to 54% with a 3-year All Upfront commitment, compared to On-Demand pricing.

Operational Impact

  • ⚠️ Warning — Financial commitment: Reserved Instances are a 1 or 3-year billing commitment. Ensure the workload is stable and long-term before purchasing.

  • ⚠️ Warning — Instance type lock-in: RIs are tied to a specific instance type and region. If the node type changes after purchase, the unused RI must be sold on the AWS Marketplace or will continue to be billed until expiry.
